Explore Cuba

with Jeremy Dyck

Timeworn, but magnificent. Dilapidated, but dignified. Fun, yet maddeningly frustrating. Cuba is a country of indefinable magic.

Writer Brendan Sainsbury, when talking about Cuba said, “Cuba is like a prince in a poor man’s coat: behind the sometimes shabby facades, gold dust lingers.” Existing through en economic embargo that has lasted more than half a century, Cuba’s colonial cities haven’t changed much since pirates roamed the Caribbean. The atmosphere and architecture is particularly stirring in places like Havana, Cienfuegos and Trinidad where grandiose squares and cobbled streets tell of opulence and intrigue.

Join Explore Amazing Places and cruise the ocean front Malecon of Havana in a 57 Chevy. Experience history as we stay in the the Hotel Nacional, where ousted president Gerardo Machado took refuge during the Sergeants’ Revolt of 1933. Be welcomed into gorgeous Casa Privadas, “Private Homes” of Cuban artists in the colonial city of Trinidad where you’ll also be able to enjoy the warm white sands of Playa Ancon. Your Explore Amazing Places experience of Cuba will be second to none.

About the leaders

Jeremy & Melissa Dyck are the co-owners of Explore Amazing Places. Together they share nearly 20 years of life abroad. Jeremy has lived and worked in places like Mexico, Honduras, Costa Rica, Peru and most recently, Cuba. He began leading groups to Cuba 6 years ago and has enjoyed introducing travelers to the people and places he loves the most. Melissa, a trained RN and fluent Spanish speaker, has also led groups in Honduras, Costa Rica, Mexico and more. Currently they make their home in the West Valley of Phoenix, Arizona where they raise their twin sons, Max and Clay.

“I am extremely excited to host this cultural experience in Cuba. It’s easy to OOOOH and AHHHHH at pictures of 57 Chevy’s and Spanish Colonial architecture, but the true beauty of Cuba lies with its people. These passionate revolutionaries have weathered decades of economic embargos and a stagnant economy and have maintained a joy that is palpable. No challenge is too great to overcome, and that attitude permeates art, music, relationships and more. You don’t want to miss this exciting opportunity to explore this truly amazing place!”
