Chris Van Wyk, is the owner of Village Weavers in La Villita on the Riverwalk of San Antonio, Texas. Village Weavers began in 1987 as a weaving school and yarn shop. Very soon after opening, Southwest School of Arts and Crafts took over the weaving school, and Village Weavers became a retail shop with emphasis on handmade and especially hand-woven work. This well known shop specializes in “one of a kind”, hand crafted art to wear; it features the work of weavers and other artisans from the school and throughout the United States, Latin America, and other corners of the globe. A vast collection of exotic handmade objects are available for gifts and décor as well. Chris says “Village Weavers is packed to the rafters with goods from every corner of Guatemala. I love everything from there, what’s not to love”?
Chris’ deep love for all things textile, handmade, and historic, make traveling to Guatemala a perfect opportunity for her to revel in the beautiful hand work she buys and sells daily. As importantly, it provides an opportunity for her to bring travelers to these magical lands, to visit some of the most inspiring and beautiful landscape in the Americas.
